The Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation (OAuGF), in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), on April 29, 2026, at Audit House, Abuja, inaugurated and inducted members of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) as part of efforts to strengthen internal accountability and promote ethical standards.
In his remarks, the Auditor-General for the Federation, Shaakaa Kanyitor Chira, FCNA, FCCrFA, FCCFI, FCTI, Ph.D reaffirmed the OAuGF’s commitment to transparency and institutional integrity. He noted that the establishment of the ACTU aligns with national anti-corruption frameworks and global best practices in public sector auditing.
The AuGF further described the nominees as highly reliable professionals and expressed confidence that they will serve as worthy ambassadors of the OAuGF in advancing integrity and ethical conduct.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Chairman of ICPC, Dr. Musa Adam Aliyu who was represented by the Director, System study and Review Department, Mr. Olusegun Adigun FSI, commended the leadership and staff of the OAuGF for their support in facilitating the successful inauguration and induction of the ACTU.
He described the initiative as a significant step in strengthening internal mechanisms for transparency and accountability, noting that ACTUs play a vital role in identifying systemic weaknesses, promoting ethical compliance, and supporting good governance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Dr. Aliyu also highlighted key responsibilities of ACTUs, including staff sensitization on anti-corruption practices, conducting corruption risk assessments, reviewing organizational systems, monitoring budget implementation, and handling preliminary investigations.
He emphasized that ACTUs serve as complementary bodies to Management, reinforcing institutional processes rather than replacing them, and called for sustained support to ensure their effectiveness.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment by both the OAuGF and ICPC to deepen collaboration in advancing accountability, transparency, and good governance in the Nigeria.
